The Amazing Power of Black Coffee
Caffeine is one of the most widely consumed stimulants in the world. Over 80% of American adults consume coffee. When you consider that consumption rates are probably very similar all over the western world and indeed, the rest of the world, that works out to a lot of people drinking coffee.
Now, we all know why we drink coffee, it is a stimulant that helps give you that crucial boost of energy that you need to start your day just right. It also contains antioxidants, which provide a wide range of health benefits. Itâs a great pre-workout stimulant and a known appetite suppressant, which makes it great if youâre looking to get into shape.
For most people, not being able to start their day with a piping hot cup of coffee is a good sign that the day is about to go horribly, horribly wrong. But, black coffee and the caffeine you get from it is not just a stimulant, it is a full-blown performance enhancer that will work to make every part of your body and mind work at peak efficiency.
Sure, black coffee does act as a stimulant, but unlike other caffeine based stimulants, like soda or energy drinks, black coffee helps you lose weight, think clearer, and just perform better all-around.
In this chapter we are going to explore the positive aspects of black coffee and why you should be incorporating a lot more black coffee into your diet.
Why Black?
But, before we get into the positive aspects of black coffee, letâs address a question many of you no doubt are asking; why black coffee, as opposed to regular coffee with cream and sugar?
While it is true that those Frappuccinos and lattes that you get at Starbucks do have caffeine in them, it is not the same as plain, old black coffee.
See, regular coffee (especially if you have like many Americans do) and blended coffee drinks like the ones you get at Starbucks are loaded with sugar and dairy products like cream or milk.
The sugar and dairy products help counteract the positive effects of the caffeine. For example, caffeine helps give you a real boost of energy, but sugar gives you a sort of mild boost and then proceeds to essentially make your body crash; which massively impacts your performance, both mentally and physically.
Likewise, if you have even a mild lactose intolerance (like many people do), the dairy sits heavy on your stomach, which if you are trying to do something like exercise, will negatively impact your performance. So, do yourself a massive favor and skip the cream and sugar. Just go for regular black coffee.
I used to love the creamy, sugary, syrupy stuff, but have learned to appreciate a good cup of coffee. If you were like me, rest assured youâll be able to drink, and dare I say enjoy, black coffee.
Eventually, you will get used to the taste and as an added bonus, black coffee tends to be a lot cheaper than other coffee, so you will save a bit of money as well.
